You Wanted to Know About Youth
Ministry at NWPC!! **The most important thing in any of these levels of service is that the person have their own healthy relationship with Jesus Christ and that they love kids. Our
Purpose Statement: As youth and adults we respond to God’s call through the Holy Spirit to be connected to each other, the church, and the world, so that our lives proclaim with joy that Jesus Christ is Lord. This
statement is base on the 5 intentions of Youth Ministry in the Presbyterian
Church: 1)
To call
young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ 2)
To
respond to the needs and interests of young people 3)
To work
together, youth and adults, in partnership 4)
To be
connected to the whole church, community, and world 5)
To
include all young people, reaching out and inviting them to belong to the
community of faith THE
YOUTH MINISTRY COUNCIL:
(The backbone of the ministry) ·
The Youth
Council is an umbrella for which all of the positions of service in our youth
ministry can originate. However, it
is not mandatory that a person serves on the Youth Council if they would like to
be involved but doesn’t feel they are ready for the challenge of serving on
the Youth Council. ·
Members
of this council consist of individuals who are interested in planning,
programming and most likely implementing the youth programs at NWPC. ·
Youth
Ministry Council members would be expected to: ·
Be at the
monthly Youth Council meetings ·
Assist
other ministry team members in planning the ministry and programs throughout the
year during a planning retreat. ·
Accept
responsibility for planning an event or activity as discussed in the Youth
Council Planning retreat. Levels
of service with descriptions and expectations
Prayer
Partner: Minimal commitment as far as being at a specific place at a certain time. Profile: Anyone who expresses interest or encouraging words or actions towards the youth of our church. Description:
Basically these folks will be contacted either through mail out or phone about
issues or events that affect the youth in our church and community.
These folks commit to praying for youth, youth leaders, and special
events or activities on a regular basis. These
folks can expect updates on how things are going in our ministry. Resource
Person: Minimal commitment but with a certain level of needing to be at specific places. Profile:
People who are interested in offering their special skills or resources to the
youth ministry. These folks are not
people who would be expected to be at every event.
They would be contacted if their assistance were needed at an event or
activity and would have the option of not participating if there was a conflict
for them. Description:
These folks would meet the needs for chaperones, transportation when needed,
hosting an event or activity, help decorate for parties, etc.
This is a good level for someone who may not be able to commit to the
higher level of commitment in being a hands-on leader. Hands-on
Leader: High level of commitment. Profile:
Folks who will commit their time to teaching a youth Sunday School class or be a
youth advisor in our Sunday Night Live Program.
Description:
This level of ministry is relationship based.
Leaders will take the time to make contacts with students at places other
than church; such as ballgames, phone calls shopping outings, etc.
This level does require a big commitment but it is also, by far, the most
rewarding and exciting! This is the
level where a person can really have a major impact on a young person’s life. Our ProgramsThe Curtain Call ProgramThis
program is provided on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15.
This program is different from our Sunday Night Live Program in that
Curtain Call addresses worship skills primarily dealing with puppets and drama.
This program is very new and we are still in the process of developing
it. This is a very exciting program
that is a lot of fun and action oriented. Sunday Night Live ProgramThis
is the youth program that typically runs from the first of August through the
end of May. It begins at 6:00 pm
with supper and usually ends around 7:30 PM.
This is our Granddaddy Program in that it is well established and has
been in action for years. This
program is very versatile in it’s content and is designed to address a broad
range of needs from fellowship to Bible study and other needs as addressed in
our Purpose Statement. Typical
Schedule: 6:00-Supper 6:45-Announcements
6:50-Mid-high

them until you are finished. Training
Training
is made available to Hands-on Youth Advisors free of charge.
There are several opportunities for training throughout the year for you
to take advantage of if you wish. Childcare

participate. If you are unable to
attend these training opportunities you are strongly encouraged to view a few
selected videos addressing Youth Ministry which are available from the Youth
Director’s office.
