Adult Division
The church hosts six adult Sunday school classes which all meet on the ground floor of the Fellowship Hall accessible either by doors directly to the outside, stairs or an elevator.  All are handicapped accessible.

·        Barksdale Class.  Barksdale Class, led by Richard Collier and other class members.  This discussion class uses a variety of study aids, including the Ray Vander Laan video series, "That the World May Know"; a Bible study series based on "The Andy Griffith Show"; studies of books and personalities of the Bible using Presbyterian Curriculum; studies of Reformed Theology related topics; and, on occasion, approved Bible study series.  Always starting class with the collection of prayer concerns and praises, this singles and couples class of all ages takes seriously the need to pray for the church, its members and its mission.

·        Cornerstone Class. This discussion led class chooses to study a variety of topics such as the new Study Catechism, Books of the Bible or special issues facing the Church.  This is a couples and singles class of all ages, and, like its name implies, is a cornerstone class of the church.

·        Men’s Bible Class.  With a president and several teachers, this class uses the Present Word Uniform Lesson Series curriculum and supports many of the missions and programs of the church with their time, talents and financial resources. This class is a great supporter of the Scouting program in the church.  They also host the church Easter pancake breakfast.

·        Vanguard Class. With rotating teachers, this all ladies’ class uses the Present Word Uniform Lesson Series curriculum.  They are the nurturers of the church giving special care to the elderly members of the congregation and supporting all the women’s ministries in the church.  One member also ministers to our newborn members.

·        3-M Class.  With rotating teachers, this couple and singles’ class uses the Present Word Uniform Lesson Series curriculum.   The 3 M’s stand for Mr., Mrs., and Miss. To represent their invitation to all ages and status of people.  This class has a quiet support of missions and social justice ministries in our community and Presbytery.

·        Friends In Faith Class.  With rotating teachers, this popular younger adult class is using the PC (USA) Adult Covenant People Curriculum as well as other materials for topical studies.

·        July Series.  All youth and adult classes come together in the month of July (and now into August) for an intergenerational class.  Last summer the Mission and Outreach Committee hosted the July Series with special reports from members of the church who have gone out on mission trips.

·        New members Class led by the pastor meets whenever the need arises.  This special class meets on Sunday Morning for two or three weeks and is for folks who are considering membership in our church, who have recently joined the church, and for those who would like a refresher course on “what it means to be a Presbyterian.”

Children’s Ministries beyond Sunday School

Children and Youth Choirs

·        Cherub Choir: For ages 3 through 1st Grade.  This is the first introduction to worship music for our youngest choir.  They meet with their choir director on Sunday morning at 9:45 to sing songs appropriate to their age development, their Sunday School curriculum as well as songs just-for-fun and for worship.  They sing for worship about once a quarter.

·        Kingdom Kids Choir: For 2nd through 5th Grades.  This choir meets at 6:15 following dinner on Wednesday evenings and is a part of their Kirk Night experience.  This choir learns more about worship and liturgical music appropriate to the seasons of the church year, prepares and performs a Christmas musical and sometimes a spring musical.  Upon graduating from this choir, they receive their very own Presbyterian Hymnal.

·        Youth Bells: our youth are ringing with adults in this our newest choir.  They prepare special music for the Advent and Lenten seasons.

Additional Educational and Fellowship Opportunities for Children

·        Children’s Worship: After the sharing faith with children during worship on Sunday mornings, all children ages 4 through 2nd grade go downstairs for worship education.  One team of rotating teachers leads the younger preschool age children.  Another team leads the K through 2nd graders using a curriculum developed by a former D.C.E. to teach about what happens in worship around the seasons of the church year.

·        Candle-lighters: 4th, 5th and 6th graders are invited to become candle-lighters bringing the light into the sanctuary for worship and taking it out at the end of the service.

·        Holy Communion workshop: All baptized children are invited to the Communion Table.  However, special instruction in a two-part workshop is offered for all second graders and for any other children whose families request it.  This is held the last two Sundays in September just before World Communion Sunday the first Sunday in October.  Children experience a ‘carpet picnic’ while remembering stories about Jesus, get introduced to our church communion ware, make communion bread and learn some of the language of Holy Communion.  Their parents also learn what our Book of Order instructs us about children and Holy Communion.

·        Bibles for fourth graders: At the beginning of each school year on Rally Day Sunday, 4th Graders are presented with their own Bibles before beginning a survey course on either the Old or New Testament.

·        Kingdom Kids: More than just a choir, Kingdom Kids is a ministry with children 2nd through 5th grade.   This ministry includes Wednesday Night dinner, choir practice and an enrichment time that rotates around arts and crafts, service projects, games and study.  The children study ‘Belonging to God: A First Catechism’ that teaches the language of faith through conversations focused around sixty catechism questions.  The Kingdom Kids Ministry Group also plans outside activities such as picnics, field trips and summer music camp, etc.

·        Confirmation/Commissioning Class: The eighth graders and other youth are invited to go through a Confirmation/Commissioning Class that begins in early January and runs through to Easter Sunday.  The program is based on the Presbyterian ‘Journey of Faith’ curriculum which is based on the nine marks of membership as listed in the Book of Order.  It adds to this base line, two retreats, several meals with families, Session Sponsors, Elder Friends and the entire Session, and two service projects.  They traditionally make the communion bread for Maundy Thursday worship service and write the confession of faith for Easter Sunday worship as part of their experience.

·        Summer Vacation Bible Experience: Held in the morning for one week every summer, VBE is a favorite children’s educational experience that involves just about as many youth and adults as it does children.  We immerse ourselves is stories of the Bible through storytellers, crafts, snacks, recreation and much, much more.

·        Advent Celebration: The First Sunday Of Advent, the church family comes together for a light meal and evening of making crafts to celebrate the coming Advent Season.

·        Easter Celebration: This is a special time for the children of NWPC and their families.  We come together to celebrate the Easter season through crafts, an Easter egg hunt, fellowship, snacks and worship.

·        Fall Festival: This is a traditional afternoon of  fun, fellowship, games and activities for children as an alternative to Halloween.  This is a special service project hosted by the Church Youth.  More can be learned from their Web Page.

·        Scouting Programs for boys and girls: NWPC supports extensive scouting programs for boys on Monday evenings and for girls on Tuesday evenings.

·        Camp Grier: All children 2nd grade and older are invited to attend a week long session of church camp at Camp Grier, a Presbyterian own and operated camp located near Old Fort, N.C.
